If you have a coffee table, you can purchase wooden crates to stack up underneath the coffee table. Essentially, it will appear as though your coffee table is now resting on a bunch of open crates if you set this up properly. The crates should all face outward so the opening is easy to get to. Depending upon the height of your coffee table and the size of your crates, you may be able to double stack them. A lot of crafting stores feature these styles of crates for reasonable prices. They come unfinished so you can stain them to match your décor quite easily.
You have now created enough “shelf” storage under your coffee table or end tables to hold hundreds of books. You achieved this without having to purchase a bookshelf.
Ambiance Is Everything
To make space feel like a great reading area, you will want to have bright lighting and a cozy place to sit. Make sure you have a warm throw blanket and pillow nearby so that you can cozy up for a long reading session. Utilize a decorative ladder to hold your most comfortable plush throws. This limits clutter and adds a bit of decorative flair to the space.
If you do not have enough light in your reading area, you will want to consider purchasing a reading lamp. This will make it easier to enjoy your favorite book. Additionally, you can set up your reading space near an outlet. Not all books are paperback or hardbound. When in Rome do as the Romans do. When in a large empty space, create a library! If you have enough space in your home to create a library, you might as well go for it. Yes, there is such a thing as discount books. You may already have quite a selection of books to proudly display, but every book lover knows there is no such thing as too many books. Libraries often have book sales where you can fill a bag or fill a box for a certain price. A lot of neighborhoods have nothing groups where members are often giving away free items such as books. Resale book stores, thrift stores, and garage sales also make for great locations to find books at heavily discounted prices.
