Cleaning your make-up products and tools is the secret to healthy and glowing skin. Often people neglect cleaning their brushes, applicators and products which may result in unwanted infections and damage to your skin. If you are a makeup enthusiast, you must invest a good amount of time, in keeping your tools and products clean and free from germs, which may get transferred to your skin during usage.

Follow these 8 tips to effectively maintain and clean your make-up products

1. Brushes

Cleaning your makeup brushes after every use is a must for anyone who would not want to apply old makeup via used brush. This may seem frenetic but doing this will keep your brushes in good form and also prevent spreading bacteria to your skin. The best way to do this is dipping it in a mild or baby shampoo and even an antibacterial soap. Wash it with lukewarm water and dry it by placing over a clean towel. If you have brush with wood base, place it on an angle as to not deform the wood while cleaning.

2. Moisturizer

Scooping out moisturizer using your fingers may leave some bacteria from your hand into it. To avoid this, use a spatula to take out the product and place it on your hand. In this way, you are keeping your hands off the moisturizer that may get contaminated. It is also essential to keep your spatula clean at all time and before every use.

3. Mascara

Using the same mascara for months can be highly dangerous for your eyes, especially if you are sensitive to catch infections. Beauty experts round the world suggest changing your mascara every 2-3 months to avoid eye infections. You may need to change it even as early as after every month if you get sick or have shared your mascara with someone else. You may also use disposable applicators to prevent such eye infections and keep you mascara germ free for longer.

4. Eye shadows

An eye shadow is the ideal place for germs to hide. Also, this cosmetic is a strong medium for the germs to get transferred to your skin. It is crucial to clean them regularly. Sounds scary? You could keep the eye shadow free from infections in simple ways.  Just take a tissue paper and wipe off the upper layer of your eye shadow. Now spray some rubbing alcohol over it and let it dry. This tip would kill the germs, which get accumulated into the eye shadow, over time.

5. Eyelash curlers

Eyelash curlers can definitely do wonders, adding volume to your eyes. However, this instrument could become a convenient place for the germs to hide and cause eye infections. Cleaning the deposited mascara over the curling pads weekly, by wiping with rubbing alcohol will make that germ free. Replacing the pads every three months, may keep your tool in a good condition.

6. Lipstick

Yes, lipsticks do need clean up too. Wondering how? Generally we neglect cleaning our lipsticks thinking that it might damage the delicate product, but the truth is our lipsticks carry a lot of germs. There can be many ways your lipstick get contaminated; it could be either due to sharing it with someone else or using it when you are sick and even due to deposition of bacteria present in our mouth. For cleaning it, roll over your lipstick slightly high and wipe it off with the help of a soft tissue. Now pour some rubbing soda in a small glass or bowl and dip your lipstick in it. In this way, you may disinfectant your favorite product and also keep it in a good shape.

7. Makeup stains

Makeup stains over clothes are usual when you use makeup regularly. It needs special skills to clean such stain. You may start off by spot cleaning it with liquid dish soap, absorbing the stain with a clean sponge and then scrubbing it with a toothbrush. Rinse the area and if required, repeat the whole process. You may also use makeup remover to remove stains, but this may leave a mark of oil in clothes and may require proper rinsing. Powdered oxygen bleach also helps in removing makeup stains to a great extent.

8. Hair straighteners and curlers

You may usually see a black build up in your hair straighteners and curlers. This is due to accumulation of oil and dirt and may make your tools less effective. Never scrub this built up; instead wipe the plates with a tissue or a clean cloth dipped in alcohol or acetone in an unplugged state. You may also use baking soda to make the plates shine as new.
