When it comes to hair extensions, there is no one-size-fits-all. Today, there are many different options for every budget, type of hair, and lifestyle. But how do you know what will be best for you, especially if you’ve never used hair extensions before?
Fortunately, Chicago’s Philip James Salon has come up with an infographic to help you learn the ins and outs of five of the most popular types of hair extensions. Your options include:
• Fusion: This technique has been in use for over a quarter of a century and works with just about any hair type, but it’s also one of the priciest choices. The good news is that the high-quality method, which involves attaching the extensions using keratin bonds, will last for 4 months with little maintenance.
• Microlink: Somewhat less expensive than fusion extension, the microlink method involves attaching hair strand by strand using small beads. The one major disadvantage is that the beads can slip if you have particularly slick hair.
• Braidless sew-in: This newer method, which involves attaching wefts of hair with thread, has become popular thanks to its gentle application and easy maintenance.
• Skin weft: If you’re hoping to add volume or slight length rather than dramatic length, the skin weft method (in which wefts of hair are attached using polyurethane strips) may be a good choice.
• Clip-in: This is the least expensive and easiest type of hair extensions to get, but they can damage your hair if you wear them for long periods of time, so they’re best for occasional use at special events.
