If you’ve ever visited Orlando, you’re probably familiar with the hot and humid climate that spans from spring to late summer.
With over 33k Brits searching for ‘Walt Disney World’ in the past month1, it looks like plenty of us are planning our itineraries for a summer trip to Orlando. Luckily, with a little preparation, the hot weather doesn’t have to dampen the magic of your trip and there are plenty of tried and tested ways to keep cool.
To help you prepare for the Florida heat, the Disney experts at AttractionTickets.com have shared their hot-day theme park hacks with you so that you can relish every moment…
Know the air-con hot spots
Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has plenty of indoor attractions and areas that are always air conditioned, so it’s good to keep this in mind and plan breaks from the sun throughout the day.
During those mid-day and early evening hours when the sun is at its most intense, try visiting an indoor exhibition or ride such as the SPACE Advanced Training Lab or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot to help you cool down.
It’s also worth looking into the park restaurants – exploring the magic and experiencing the thrills of Walt Disney World can be hungry work, and unwinding over a mid-day meal in one of the air-conditioned restaurants is never a bad idea.
Visit ‘splash pads’ and cooling mist spots
It’s no secret that Walt Disney World Orlando can get hot in those warmer months, but what many people don’t know is that there are hidden splash pads and water features dotted around the parks designed specifically to provide you with a quick refresher between attractions.
Seek out a cooling mist station – which you can find at each of the parks at Walt Disney World. Or if you’re visiting with kids, take a trip to Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak station – one of many splash pads located in FantasyLand in Magic Kingdom Park for a fun way to keep the kids refreshed.
Top Tip: If you stand nearby to one of the flume rides at the right time you can find a ‘splash zone’ for a quick cool down.
Come equipped with a reusable water bottle
Theme park or not, it’s vital you stay hydrated when you’re spending long days in the sun. Come equipped with an insulated, reusable water bottle that you can keep topped up at the water bottle refilling stations; you’ll be able to find these throughout the Walt Disney World parks.
In Hollywood Studios, three water refill stations are located around Galaxy’s Edge. However, it’s also possible to fill your bottle with water using the self-serve soda fountains which you can find at Hollywood Studios’ various restaurants and food stalls.
On-the-go cooling essentials
Take preparation one step further, and bring a pocket fan on your trip. If you don’t want to miss out on even a moment in the sun, you wouldn’t be the first to pack a hand-held electric fan, in-fact, lifestyle vlogger Brogan Tate proclaimed that she “cannot do a Florida trip without one” in this vlog.
Another go-to amongst seasoned Walt Disney World visitors is the refillable spray bottle for on-the-go, bottomless cooling mist that could just be your saving grace in those longer queues – top it up at the water refilling stations and keep cool on-the-go all day long.
Plan your itinerary around the sun
It’s important to consider visiting the bigger rides earlier in the morning or later in the evening to avoid being exposed to the mid-day sun whilst you wander, queue and ride in the parks.
Disney boasts two themed waterparks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon – splashing around in the water and on the slides is a great way to keep cool during the hottest hours of the day. These parks are included as standard in the 7 and 14 day Magic Tickets sold through AttractionTickets.com.
For the night owls, you can book a spot at Disney H2O Glow Nights at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon where between 8pm and 11pm, limited guests are granted access and you can enjoy your favourite slides and rides, dance at the DJ party or unwind in the bar area with complimentary refreshments.
