Happy Tuesday! I’m sure, though, that like me, you’re already looking forward to the weekend. So let’s keep moving forward. Here’s what you need to know this week in the social media/tech world:
1-foursquare is 15 million more times legit than it already proved itself
That’s right. foursquare now has 15 million users.
This past June, I was utterly baffled that foursquare surpassed 10 million. I was still a hater, and wrote this about how it was impressive, even though I knew that I’d never join. Never.
Right? No. Wrong! Without even thinking, I joined in September under great persuasion and I’ll admit: I regret not doing so sooner. And apparently, so have another 5 million users– an additional 5 million, I have to emphasize, in just 6 months. That’s really something else.
2-foursquare wins, again
Gowalla, (what? Yeah I never heard of it either) another geo-social application, similar to foursquare is dissembling in January and its creators and other team members will be joining Mark Zuckerberg’s empire in Palo Alto. Though everyone knew that foursquare would take over (if you’re not agreeing, please see above), Zuck was still impressed and co-founders Josh Williams and Scott Raymond were impressed too. Win- win for all, certainly. Though this doesn’t mean that Facebook is trying to endorse this failing brand. Only that they’re willing to take them on and user their skills to perhaps make checking in locations on Facebook more relevant in the future. Who knows.
3-StumbleUpon got a makeover
Get ready for more distractions on the Internet. Now that StumbleUpon is looking hotter than ever, it’ll be harder to resist its temptations. Really though, here are the details on the new layout:
-A new StumbleUpon Bar that integrates the Explore box
– Integration of channels (everyone is on this bandwagon now– it’s brilliant. And as Mashable highlights, specifity is key. Not in our hobbies and interests anymore, but in the way that we search, learn and find them)
and obviously,
-The new logo, as seen above
