Review: Tetley Redbush

As part of our recent Healthy Living articles the lovely people from Tetley got in contact about reviewing Tetley Redbush for the Daily Waffle. So I set myself off on this reviewing challenge as I can get a bit fussy about what drinks I like and admit I rarely take to new drinks easily. So anyway Redbush is a naturally caffeine free drink and can make a refreshing alternative to coffee, tea or other herbal drinks.

It is made from 100% natural rooibos and South Africans have been enjoying drinking this since the 18th century.

Other benefits from rooibos are said to;

  • Alleviate allergies, asthma and dermatological problems, such as eczema and acne
  • As they contain low levels of minerals including zinc which can help give you a glowing complexion and calcium, manganese and fluoride are needed for the development of strong teeth and bones
  • Also using Redbush cold tea bags are said to revitalise tired or red eyes as they are said to contain calming properties
  • There is a low tannin content too which means drinking this you avoid the discolouring of your teeth that can be seen with other tea or coffee

Tetley Redbush is sourced from farms that are part of the Rainforest Alliance certification programme. Tetley Redbush is a specifically selected and unique blend, they buy the finest cuts of Redbush and this is filtered an extra time to create a tea that will be bursting with flavour.

When I opened the box I noticed the tea bags were a lot darker with a slight red tinge to them and they reminded me more of a fruit tea bag than the usual tea bags you can buy. Using my favourite Winnie the Pooh mug I made my first Redbush cuppa. The picture below shows the colour of Redbush after I left the tea bag in for about 30 seconds, it’s quite a dark almost cherry like colour. I found the drink to be refreshing and fruity.

I admit I am not one for herbal teas and do prefer having milk in my tea which of course you can add to this tea too. I found even though I added quite a big shot of milk that the colour was still pretty dark compared to my normal brew.The picture perhaps doesn’t truly show how dark but it definitely did not get that milky tea colour.

Even with milk the drink is refreshing and the fruity taste is still there too. Replacing one of my usual cups of tea for Redbush every day I found that the drink satisfied my thirst and as such didn’t feel the need to drink again too soon after. I tried a different way of drinking it too which was to put about 3-4 tea bags in a big jug of water and then leave it overnight in the fridge and then the next day served it with ice and lemonade. This was absolutely lovely. A great way to get kids into drinking it too as apparently serving it with lemonade made the drink so much better!

I will definitely carry on with the Redbush challenge by replacing your normal cuppa for a Redbush cuppa. I might also give the Redbush & Vanilla a try too. This drink is the perfect addition to your healthy lifestyle. Have you ever tried Redbush? Or drop us a comment below if you’re going to do the Redbush challenge too and let us know what you think šŸ™‚

Tetley Redbush is available in packs of 40, 80 and Tetley Redbush & Vanilla in packs of 40 from all major supermarkets. Visit www.tetley.co.uk/redbush for more information.
