Tuesday’s Tech Take: 1/31

As has been the theme, or rather, obsession in the social media and tech world for the past few months, this week is all about Facebook’s Initial Public Offering. Yet again.

I understand that it’s going to be the biggest IPO of all time. And I agree with the fanatics that that’s really exciting. I also give props to Mashable for this slideshow, where they outline Facebook’s history in regards to addressing its IPO. Really cool stuff there.

More than anything, though, I never realized that Zuckerberg always had a strategy in mind for Facebook’s IPO: the waiting game, which turned out to be pure genius. And no, it’s not like he started thinking about Facebook’s IPO just after ‘The Social Network’ gained critical acclaim.

Around 2005, he said something to the effect that Facebook’s IPO was “years down the line,” and continued to preach patience when further questioned about it. A little bit of me hates admitting this, but dude is brilliant. And has really good instincts– Facebook’s IPO is expected to exceed $10 billion.

I’m hoping this is the last time I have to write about this subject, but without a doubt, by the time we’re all astounded by the number which I think is going to be a lot larger than $10 billion this week, all I can say is this: told you so.

Let the wagering begin.
