This is something I’ve given some thought lately: the more I hustle and bustle the streets of New York, the more I see not just more smartphones, but specifically, more iPhones.
As an Android girl myself, I feel jealous, spiteful and sometimes even aggressive about this. Though I’m certainly not surprised, given Apple’s intentional marketing strategics/revelations, i.e., Siri, as well as its unintentional ones, i.e., Steve Jobs’ death.
It always works out for them, though. The party of Apple and its fandom is always growing, just like its innovations on its latest, shiny toy.
But for some reason, I can’t say the same about Android. About a year and a half ago, though, I thought I could. Android, with its open source network, ties with multiple wireless providers, and and yes, its similarities to iOS made it just as good as an iPhone. Something which I still think is true, even if it never will be “the original.” It had something great in the making, however; for me, its clear advantage was being available to the most popular providers, making it more convenient for consumers to stay with their current wireless contracts, and to become attached. Something I thought which would still make a difference today.
But truthfully, I can’t recall something really, and I mean like OMG exciting from Android since I saw the first Droid commercial not too long before I bought my own Android around 18 months ago. That was during the summer of 2010. Yikes.
The point? I’m let down, because let’s face it, Android could really do better if it wanted to.
