Tuesday’s Tech Take: Tumblr & Facebook

Tumblr’s officially in a relationship with Facebook. Just like everyone else.

Here’s the low down:

Integrating your Tumblr posts onto Facebook will now be easier than ever because anything you post on your Tumblr blog will be immediately shared via your Facebook Timeline and into your news feeds (if you so choose). Not only that, however, Facebook’s ticker will also highlight your Tumblr likes and replies. Which really means that all of Tumblr’s users’ activity, with the exception of what they’re reading on Tumblr, are now sheareable, as far as Facebook is concerned.

Interesting, for sure.

Just as Spotify, Pinterest, and others have teamed up with Facebook to ensure that our friends don’t miss a beat with us, this news is just another instance where convenience has won again in this digital age.

Social media platforms, as well as other brands, know that our attention spans are always dwindling, especially with the world’s ever growing access to the Internet. So with less of a chance to contain our loyalty to their sites, it’s safer, from their points of views, to incoporate each other in some way via the few sites that do have us at their mercy. And since no other platform fits this description quite as well as Facebook, it’s this site that the other are always turning to.

And truth be told, it’s a win-win-win for all parties involved: Facebook, because it’s proving its dominance yet again. Tumblr, because it’s a chance to stay relevant, and us– because we’re happy to keep things in one place, i.e., convenience.
