Favourite holiday destinations within the UK

As a child, most of my family’s holidays were overseas where we spent most of our time on the beach, with the family, in the sun.  So as an adult I realised that the UK has plenty to offer on the holiday front, from city breaks to family holidays by the seaside. I know travelling can be stressful with a young child as they can become easily bored, which doesn’t help if you are stuck on a plane. Keeping the children entertained in the car is much easier as you can play games and stop often to give them chance to have a run around. Choosing a destination in the UK allows you to have a very short travelling time and allows you to be fully in control of the holiday. You will be amazed how much is within easy reach of where you live in the UK, and if you have never explored the UK you will likely not know what it is offering. It is often amazing to discover what your own country has to offer you, and the family. So here is my guide to my families favourite holiday destinations in the UK:

Cornwall

There’s so much to do, see and explore in Cornwall. With the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain, you’ll discover tiny Cornish fishing villages, smuggler’s coves, countless spectacular beaches and sweeping bays, dramatic cliffs and coastlines, plus beautiful moorland and countryside.

When we visited Cornwall last summer we stayed around 25 mins away from Newquay, which is one of the nations favourite seaside towns. Make sure that you do plenty of research of different types of accommodation. We decided to stay in a caravan park and there was plenty of things to do on site if the weather was not great or if we wanted an easy chill-out day around the camp. There are plenty of things to do and see with the family, especially with small children in Cornwall. The weather is normally nice in the summer months. Scarborough

Scarborough, Britain’s first seaside resort, has been welcoming visitors for over 360 years and is still as popular as ever.

I have been to Scarborough three times in the last 4 years as I love the place and is just over two hours drive from Manchester where I live. We normally stay in a caravan park just outside Scarborough so we can explore the rest of Yorkshire. However there are a number of parks inland that offer lodges and chalets with a woodland setting. Weymouth & Portland

Weymouth and Portland are areas of great contrast. Portland at the southernmost tip of Dorset is home to some of the most dramatic and rugged coastline anywhere with a real sense of isolation, while Weymouth just across the bay is home to one of the most family friendly beaches and a hive of activity.

I have been to Weymouth twice in the last 12 months. The main reason that we went back was that we enjoyed it so much and there was so much to do, we literally couldn’t fit it all in the first week we went.  We stayed at the same holiday park both times as it is brilliant for kids and it is located around 10 miles from Weymouth and 6 miles from Dorchester, which is perfect for the area.
