Jason Bourne is back!!!!…… What do you mean he’s not in it?……. But it’s called The Bourne Legacy? He’s got to be in it…….. Jeremy Renner?…..
That’s pretty much how my side of the conversation went when I found out that a) The was a new Bourne film out, and b) It was lacking Jason Bourne. When Matt Damon brought the Bourne series into our cinema’s, he brought us a modern-day alternative to James Bond. A gritty, real character whose story was as heartbreaking as it was exciting. Robert Ludlums book’s of course ended with the conclusion of The Bourne Ultimatum, but, in true Hollywood style, they decided that just because Robert Ludlum didn’t write anymore, they would carry it on anyway and have written a movie-original ‘Bourne’ story. I use ‘Bourne’ lightly as he’s NOT FRIGGING IN IT!
Ahem, anyway, the story picks up after the events of the original trilogy and centres around a new hero, Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner – The Avengers) who is another treadstone super-assassin. The plot is a super-guarded secret, but it appears from the trailers that there is the usual Bourne-esque amount of double-crossing by the American government and a trained killer looking for revenge. Will they never learn? The film co-stars the fabulous Edward Norton (American History X, Fight Club) and the gorgeous Rachel Weisz (Constantine), with series regular Joan Allen also making an appearance. The action looks thrilling, Renner looks perfect in the role of a Bourne clone and Edward Norton is always brilliant. The trailer makes it hard for me not to want to give this movie a go, even despite the fact Bourne isn’t in it, even if he is mentioned a lot…..
