PJ Harvey is a writer, singer and multi-instrument playing talent-machine from Dorset. If anyone except her put on a white fringed trouser suit and some glittery boots, they’d look like a total dork. But Polly-Jane is one of the coolest people to have ever existed ever, so she can do anything she likes and I will praise her for it.
Stories from the City and Stories from the Sea is my favourite album of hers, and this is such a beautiful song. It’s a rock anthem, a real triumph of simplicity too, and yet it’s such a sexy, bold song with such clever and enticing lyrics. This album received a BRIT award nomination for Best Female Artist, and two Grammy Award nominations for Best Rock Albums and Best Female Rock Performance for this single. Harvey was also nominated for and won the 2001 Mercury Music Prize, extremely well deserved too. She was also scored highly in Q Magazine’s 100 Greatest Women in Rock.
