How to Make Your Office Cleaning Simple as a Start Up

Making your office cleaning simple as a start up is often challenging especially when you don’t always have a budget to stretch into hiring a cleaning company. When you have a start up, it is usually you as well as a co-founder or maybe a few staff members. Although it would be easier to bring cleaning contractors on board, there are some good strategies that will enable you to stay up to date with the cleaning in your office without one too. Below are some tips that will make your life easier! 1) Divide your workspace into zones. A lot of people get overwhelmed when they try to clean up their office from scratch, not realising that if they broke the task up it would be much simpler and easier. It makes for a much more efficient space for usage especially when you know what is where. It also reduces all your cleaning time, because you don’t spend half your time picking up stuff, especially after a long day in meetings. Zones also help any new staff members in the office to know what goes where.

2) One of the smartest tricks about office cleaning is to only keep the stuff that you need at arm’s length. Many people are confused, especially when it comes to keeping more stuff on their desks. The rule of thumb is that you only keep what you need at arm’s reach. Anything else that is surrounding you is extra and needs to be gotten rid of. When you use the other zones that you have allocated to your place, it makes your place much simpler to manage and clean at the end of the day!

3) A lot of the time cleaning in the office involves just taking care of the paperwork. You can end up with so much paper at the end of the day that you may be wondering if you really needed it in the first place. Make sure that you organise and delegate all the paperwork in proper baskets and folders, so that you don’t get important staff and client work mixed up. Cleaning should be light in an office, not resembling a mining excavation! Shred any papers with sensitive information to retain confidentiality.

4) You can definitely make your cleaning easier, especially if you know and limit your own boundaries. It can innocently start from “Well, I’d have one bookshelf” and then proceed to your desk, your extra chairs and the shelves covered with books that you’re not going to read, lend to anyone or have any worth in the office. The same goes for things such as your filing cabinet. If you find that it’s all become too much for you, it’s easier to just get rid of stuff rather than letting everything pile up and cause more havoc and nuisance in the long run.

5) Your office cleaning isn’t just physical! Many people don’t realise this but even your cleaning contractor may recommend you decluttering everything in your inbox that is taking up energy. Delete any unread emails and unsubscribe from anything you don’t wish to receive anymore. The first step to keeping your office clean is to actually have a clean mind. The cleaner mind you have, the more likely everything else will be clean in your life as well. Cleaning shouldn’t be a chore when you follow these great steps to keeping your place neat and tidy.
