Is It Time to Increase Your Video Content?

It’s likely you already know you should have more video content on your site, but how crucial is it really? Are videos really that effective or can you get by with the photos and text that have gotten you this far in your marketing journey.

According to this set of 100 insights on content marketing, statistics say that video is crucial to your content marketing strategy. Almost 90% of consumers are clamouring for more video content. Additionally, if you are trying to court the millennial demographic, three quarters of them report that they watch video content every single day.

Marketers swear by their use of video as well. 97% of marketers say that their video content has allowed their customers to learn more about their product. This might be why 87% of businesses are said to use video marketing (a figure up 6% over just the past year).

If you are not currently using video in your marketing strategy then you are one of a dwindling few companies that are not. You may lose customers as this trend continues and consumers come to expect competent and relevant video content.

Is video translating into conversions? Close to 65% of consumers say that a branded video makes them more likely to buy a product.

How to Get Video Content Cheaply and Easily

It used to be that creating a video marketing piece was hugely expensive, but today it can be done on your phone quickly and to great effect. There are even ways to get your content without spending money at all.

  • User generated content: hold a contest that asks for a video of someone using your product or ask a superuser or product ambassador to make a short video of them using your product or sporting merch. The easiest way to make a video is to have someone else do it for you. These can be particularly useful for social media stories, which have gained a great deal in popularity.
  • C-level content: A great way to have customers connect with your social is to have a video from a high level member of your business team. They love to hear what is going on with the CEO, COO, or the board chair.
  • Instructional: Demonstrating a way to use a product can be valuable to viewers.
  • Day-to-Day: People love to know what is happening behind the scenes.

What about production?

    • Keep it short: 90 seconds is seen to be just about as long as you want to go with a video.  Close to 60% of people stop watching after a minute and a half.
    • Do I need a film crew?  It depends on what you are making, but when it comes to insta story content, for example, not only does this not have to have much production, it is actually better that it feel raw and real.

The video you produce doesn’t have to be Hollywood quality, but consider how small, short, clean videos might inform your customers and give you an edge over competitors. Even just gifs and boomerangs can increase your potential and give your site the video imagery it needs to be competitive.
