How to Get Acne-Free Skin in 6 Easy Steps

How to Get Acne-Free Skin in 6 Easy Steps

Acne’s one of the most common skin problems out there. Almost everybody struggles with acne, and getting acne-free skin is a universal goal for both men and women. Follow these 6 easy steps recommended by dermatologists to get rid of acne for good.

How to get acne-free skin in 6 easy steps

1. Commit to a Regular Cleaning Routine

Acne’s a result of clogged pores. It’s an inflammatory response caused by an overproduction of bacteria on your skin due to an accumulation of dirt, dead skin cells, and oil. Removing this accumulation can help unclog pores, treating and preventing acne effectively.

Usually, acne isn’t just a single pimple. It’s a combination of several pimples, comedones, and cysts. So, you can’t treat them effectively one-by-one.

Commit to a regular skincare routine to tackle acne for good. Cleanse and moisturize in the morning, and cleanse and repair in the evening. What products you use is up to you.

Just make sure to avoid products that make your acne worse.

2. Use Fragrance-Free Non-Comedogenic Products

Dirt, oil, and dead skin cells aren’t the only things that can clog your pores. The skincare products you love can also contribute to acne.

When you’re shopping for skincare products, make sure you choose non-comedogenic creams. Otherwise, they can cause more harm than good for your acne-prone skin.

If you have sensitive skin, cutting out fragranced products can help calm it. These chemicals can easily cause irritation, or even worse, more acne.

3. Target the Cause of Your Acne

Acne is a result of clogged pores. It’s an inflammatory response. In most cases, it’s due to an overproduction of oil from your skin (sebum).

You can target oily skin by using retinol products or salicylic acid. These can be very effective in eliminating and preventing acne.

However, pregnant women shouldn’t use either of these products. Instead azelaic acid or glycolic acid is just as effective and also safe for the baby.

For some, acne is a response to diet. Chocolate, processed foods, and milk are often associated with acne. Cutting these foods out can help calm your skin.

4. Don’t Over Exfoliate

There’s a common misconception that rubbing your skin will eliminate acne. However, it’s actually the opposite.

Rubbing your skin doesn’t make your skin cleaner. It only irritates your skin, to the point where you risk causing permanent scarring. And it can even lead to more breakouts.

Using exfoliators with nuts in them is also very bad for your skin. These nuts cause microscopic scars that damage your skin barrier.

Instead, it’s better to use a muslin cloth, and gently exfoliate your face with it. It removes all the dirt and dead skin cells that cause acne without causing damage.

5. Moisturizer Is Your Friend

Another acne myth is that moisturizing makes it worse. Yes, comedogenic moisturizer does contribute to acne. However, after using skin-drying products, you have to restore your skin barrier.

Using a moisturizer is a must when you’re using retinol products to target acne. Dry skin carries its own set of dangers.

Apart from the ashiness and flakiness of dry skin, it also increases the risk of sun damage, infection, and signs of aging.

6. Love Yourself and Love Your Acne

It’s important to recognize that acne can affect how you look at yourself. A lot of guides focus so heavily on restoring your physical health, that they forget to mention mental health.

Your acne doesn’t define you. And it doesn’t define your beauty. You need to target and treat your acne for the sake of your health, but having acne doesn’t detract from your appearance.

Make your acne treatment a positive experience. However, be sure to love yourself as you are.
