There is no greater place to look for wedding inspiration than the royal family. Over the years, we have seen many members of the monarchy tie the knot and whilst they are often similar in size and aesthetic, one thing that does vary from royal to royal is the colour scheme of the day.
Whilst replicating a royal wedding is likely out of reach for most of us, mirroring their colour palette is not. Luxury jeweller Austen & Blake has pulled the colour palettes from some of the most beautiful royal weddings over the years.
So, if your big day is on the horizon, here’s how to match your colour scheme to that of the royals…
Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer
In July 1981, Prince Charles married his first wife, Lady Diana Spencer, at St Paul’s Cathedral.
This royal wedding looked traditional from afar with Diana’s white dress and Prince Charles in a black suit, accompanied with blue and gold. However, the bouquets beautifully set the tone of the season with creams, pinks and greens.
If tradition and subtlety is your thing, then this could be the perfect palette to replicate on your big day. Keeping to the classic white wedding dress and black suit, with subtle pops of colour hidden amongst the floral arrangements.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles
Prince Charles remarried in April 2005 to Camilla Parker Bowles in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall.
The colour scheme to this wedding seemed to replicate their age, as they got married slightly later in life than some of the other royals. Neutral tones of grey and brown give off a much more mature feeling whilst still portraying that element of class you would expect from a royal wedding.
This colour scheme would be the perfect fit for a mature wedding or someone who is less fond of bright colours.
Among many royal weddings, pastel tones seem to be far more popular than bright, bold colours, likely because they appear more classy than the latter, a choice that appears to have continued throughout the years.
Prince William and Kate Middleton
April 2011 saw the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey, in London.
Unlike many other royal weddings, their colour palette was bold and certainly gave off a regal feel.
Whilst Kate and her bridesmaids kept things very neutral in ivory with cream and green bouquets, William and the boys stood out in bold red, blue and gold. These colours combined make for a very patriotic palette.
Whilst this isn’t likely to be a standard wedding colour scheme, it would be perfect for a royal or British themed wedding!
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
In May 2018, Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Markle in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
The spring wedding saw a light and fresh colour palette, perfect for the season. Light pastel tones of green sat beautifully against the whites, complemented by the males’ contrasting black suits.
These colours make the perfect muted spring palette that could easily be transitioned into a summertime wedding.
Princess Eugine and Jack Brooksbank
Princess Eugenie of York married Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in October 2018.
Whilst this was an autumn wedding, the colours did not replicate the usual autumnal tones you’d expect. Instead, it felt more like a winter wedding with a cool colour palette of whites, blues and greens.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
In July 2020, Princess Beatrice of York married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, Royal Lodge, Windsor.

The pretty pinks and fresh, natural tones seemed like a more modern twist on a classic royal wedding.
