We’ve all been there – bought the wedding guest dresses, worn it once, never worn it again. So, if your friends or family are tying the not this year, Millie Rich, stylist at THREAD says “let’s break the cycle.” Because, contrary to popular belief, it is possible to strike that balance with a look that’s both wedding and post-wedding appropriate.
Below are Millie’s 4 favourite wedding outfits that continue to deliver beyond the big day:
A timeless two-piece suit
A two-piece suit is forever a leader in versatility, plus it requires little to no effort on the styling front. So, if dresses don’t take your fancy, take comfort in knowing that smart separates are equally appropriate for a marriage ceremony as well as a number of other occasions, too.
Opt for brighter, bolder colourways such as yellow or pink, because not only do they look great for this time of year, but they also ensure your blazer, and trouser combo doesn’t come off too corporate.
Style with mules and a complementary clutch for the actual wedding. Then, for days that aren’t as formal, trainers and a tee are always failsafe. More great qualities about a two-piece set are its ability to mix and match with other items of clothing in your closet, extending your wardrobe and giving you more freedom in your choices of styling your clothing – think the blazer with some mom jeans or the trousers with a fun blouse.
A jumpsuit
Like a suit, jumpsuits are loved for their ease of styling and there really is a silhouette out there to suit everyone: dramatic wide-legs, elevated boiler suits, and free-flowing with plenty of ruffles are just some of the many styles a jumpsuit has to offer.
Jumpsuits come in as a strong alternative for wedding season, without feeling as androgynous as a suit, and most importantly, they look just as good with flats too. Anything short-sleeved looks great layered with a chunky knit cardigan and a western ankle boot for a more laid-back look.
A tea dress
A tea dress instantly makes you look as if you have made an effort while being extremely easy to wear. Not only does it perpetuate an elegant shape, but if you’re a print lover, this is the dress for you with various styles such as polka dots and floral prints- who doesn’t love a floral for a wedding. Alternatively, a block-colour iteration with a statement sleeve is equally as exciting, such as an animal-print style paired with a headband and contrasting shoes for a contemporary spin.
Fabric-wise, chiffon is the ideal option in warmer climates, while viscose brings that silky and elegant finish to even the simplest of silhouettes.
The slip dress
The key to styling a slip dress is all in embracing their simplicity. Look for options in rich colours such as opal purple or magenta pink to keep the attention on both the fabric and structure and finish with a mule and blazer. A beachy wedge also works well in place of a mule if you’re really feeling the holiday vibes accompanied by some delicately layered necklaces for an ultimate chic look.
Post-wedding, the slip dress works with just about anything, and thanks to the fluid, slightly looser-fitting cut of most slip dresses, they’ll easily accommodate a fine knit or t-shirt layered underneath.
