Groundbreaking British composer and singer-songwriter Jamie Irrepressible aka – THE IRREPRESSIBLES just shared the entrancing video for ‘Inner Child’, the focus song of his recently released EP, Self Love & Acceptance. Originally from Yorkshire and now based in Manchester, Self Love & Acceptance is Jamie‘s first release in three years, and follows his three critically acclaimed studio albums Superheroes (2020), Nude (2012), and Mirror Mirror (2010), featuring his now international indie-hits ‘Most Beautiful Boy’, ‘Two Men In Love’ and ‘In This Shirt’. Collectively amassing an impressive three billion streams combined, his unique brand of cathartic orchestral pop has cemented Jamie as one of Britain’s most talented musical exports, garnering collaborations with electronic artists such as Röyksopp, Tinlicker, Rex The Dog, and Ionalee.
With six brand new songs and instrumental pieces, Self Love & Acceptance hosts a range of beautifully moving sounds – from extended moments of immersive orchestrations to introspective contemplations of inner enlightenment and growth. Throughout the EP, Jamie delivers a powerful expression of his journey towards finding self-love. The focus track, ‘Inner Child’,features a serene piano accompaniment and string section, set delicately beneath Jamie’s resplendent vocals as he sings about the power of embracing the childlike radiance within all of us.
Directed and produced by Joel McDermott, known for using his medium to actively challenge cultural myth and ameliorate social division, the accompanying video for ‘Inner Child’ explores the life of a retired NHS nurse living alone. Her interactions with herself and others define her past present and future experiences. We see her inner child shine through as she connects with life.
Speaking on ‘Inner Child’, composer Jamie describes: “Inner child takes us back to the essence of life – the scintilla – the spark – our inner child always has this and by remembering them and setting them free we become our innate nature… The piece becomes a meditation on this – and the emotional journey of life – which goes all the way into the inner child and then comes out dancing as the other musicians sing – with rhythms, ostinatos, and melodies building to become an organic blossoming of musical shapes and a complexity of difference that hopefully inspires the listener to move in their own way.”
