With the NBA final fast approaching on the first week of June and a 16% increase in viewership from last season, wings, chips, and dips have long been match-day essentials. But what are people’s favorite dips and sauces to accompany their sports snacks?
To find out, Betway surveyed over 2,000 Americans to reveal which wing and chip dipping sauces are most popular.
From Buffalo to BBQ, there’s no denying America is a nation of sauce and dip lovers. But, if people have to pick just one, which flavor is the country’s favorite?
To put an end to the debate, Betway surveyed over 2,000 Americans, revealing once and for all which sauces are the favorites for dipping both wings and chips.
Ranch is America’s most-loved sauce for wings, with over one-third of people voting it as their favorite
Taking the crown as the nation’s favorite sauce for wings is Ranch, with 35% of Americans naming it their most-loved flavor. Women, in particular, are big fans of the creamy sauce, with 39% voting it as their favorite, compared to just a quarter of men. It’s also popular across all generations over the age of 25.
Coming in a very close second is BBQ, with 33% of the vote. This is the favorite wing sauce for men (34%), and also for Gen-Z (38%).
Rounding off the top three most-loved sauces for wings is the classic Buffalo. Over a quarter (27%) of people said they want some buffalo spice with their wings.

Over one-third of people say french onion is their favorite dip, making it the most popular overall
French onion (or California dip) has come out as America’s favorite sauce for chips. Two-fifths of people voted it as their number one choice, and it’s also the favorite chip dip among women (40%).
Meanwhile, men prefer their dip a little spicier, with 35% saying salsa is their number one sauce for chips. Salsa is also the second most popular overall, with 36% of the vote, while queso (32%) rounds off the top three.
On the other end of the scale, hummus and bean dip are tied as the nation’s least favorite chip dips — perhaps these are a little too healthy for people’s liking.

The South is all about BBQ and Ranch for wings, while the Northwest loves Buffalo and Blue Cheese
There’s definitely a North versus South divide when it comes to favorite wing sauces, and the Southern states have two clear winners in BBQ and ranch. Given it’s the birthplace of BBQ sauce, it makes sense that it’s popular in South Carolina (33%), while Alabama (45%) is also partial to the classic sauce. Most of the other neighboring states prefer ranch, including Florida (34%), Georgia (40%), and West Virginia (55%) — though interestingly ranch was invented by a Nebraskan in Alaska!
Meanwhile, the North-Western states have slightly more unique tastes when it comes to wing sauce preferences, with Wyoming voting for Buffalo (67%) and Oregon going for blue cheese (35%).
East Coast loved french onion, but the West Coast prefers salsa
Given how close it is to the border, perhaps it makes sense that California is partial to one of Mexico’s most delicious exports, Salsa (44%). Though in a shocking turn of events, although French Onion dip is commonly referred to as California dip (having been invented in L.A.), it doesn’t even feature in the state’s top three favorite chip dips.
Mexican flavors are popular across the West Coast, with Oregon also voting for Salsa as its favorite dip (38%), while Washington favors Guacamole (35%).
In comparison, the East Coast is firmly on the French Onion side of the debate, with New York (37%), New Jersey (37%), and Massachusetts (43%) all voting it as their number one chip dip. Meanwhile, Connecticut is right on the fence, with 39% of people voting both Salsa and French Onion as their favorite — oh the controversy.
