A recent survey conducted by Superdrug’s Online Doctor reveals that stress, differing libido levels, and self-esteem issues are the leading obstacles to fulfilling intimate relationships for many in the UK. The survey, which gathered insights from over 2,000 adults, highlights the impact of modern lifestyle pressures on personal relationships and intimacy, with one in ten men stating they can’t enjoy sex due to their pets.
The survey revealed that 18% of the UK are unsatisfied with their sex lives, with men (23%) reporting higher dissatisfaction compared to women (14%). Meanwhile, 27% of those asked rate their partner’s sexual performance as very poor, poor, or average, and 32% say their sexual needs are often unmet. Despite this disappointment in the bedroom, more than one in five (23%) never give feedback about their sexual experiences, leading to a cycle of unmet needs and unaddressed issues.
In regards to barriers to enjoyment, nearly one in five (19%) respondents report that stress and fatigue affect their desire or enjoyment of intimacy, being cited as the main reason. This impact was found to be particularly high among women (22%).
Differing libido levels pose another challenge, with a fifth of adults noting that mismatched desires can create friction in relationships. Furthermore, body image and self-esteem issues prevent one in six Brits from fully embracing intimate moments with their partners, whilst one in ten men can’t enjoy sex due to their pets.
