From dream holidays to early retirement, the UK’s lottery winners have plenty of ideas for how they’d spend a life-changing windfall. With The National Lottery creating an average of seven new millionaires every week, and over 7,400 millionaires made across the UK since the first draw1, it’s a question many have pondered.
But what are the top priorities for Brits if luck was on their side? A new survey by OLBG reveals the nation’s attitudes towards their lifestyle if they won the lottery, including whether brits would quit their jobs or whether they think they’d be happier overall.
Which regions would quit their jobs?
The research revealed that 22% of Brits would continue to work if they won the lottery, but which regions are the most likely to stay in their career?
Almost half of people in Wales and London (47%) revealed that they would quit their jobs if they won a life-changing sum of money via the lottery, with residents in the South East and Scotland (44%) close behind. 43% of people from the East Midlands also disclosed admitted they would resign if they became overnight millionaires, and who can blame them.
However, people from the South West and Yorkshire & Humberside have a different mindset. Only 31% of respondents from the South West stated that they would leave their place of work if they won the lottery, while just 28% of people from Yorkshire & Humberside would do so, the lowest total compared to every region in the UK.

Which regions would be happier in the long-term?
Whether money can buy happiness or not has long been debated, but now we finally have the answers. A substantial 58% of people in both the East Midlands and London disclosed that they believe winning £10m on the lottery would make them happier in the long-term, while 54% of residents in the North West and 52% of people who reside in the West Midlands also think the same way.
Northern Irish and Scottish residents are less reliant upon money for their long-term happiness, though. Just 40% of people from Northern Ireland believe they would be happier in the long run if they won the lottery, and that figure drops to 38% for respondents from Scotland.
