As conversations around workplace equality continue, gender diversity in traditionally male-led sectors is becoming a key focus. Employers are recognising the value of a diverse workforce, and statistics show that women are making significant strides in industries that were once difficult to break into.
Industries where women are making the biggest impact include water and waste management, logistics, and construction.
Construction, transport, and STEM fields are seeing a surge in female representation, with some industries experiencing up to 20% female growth between 2020 and 2024.
Leading office furniture specialist, Furniture At Work, has used the latest industry data to rank the sectors where women have made the most progress over the past four years.

However, despite growth in many other sectors, female representation in the farming, forestry, and fishing industries declined by 14%, while retail and wholesale also decreased by 10%.
Despite these declines, the overall trend highlights a shift towards greater gender diversity in traditionally male-dominated industries.
A spokesperson at Furniture At Work said: “The research clearly shows that women are increasingly taking on roles in industries that were once heavily male-dominated. This shift is not only a positive for gender equality but also a significant advantage for businesses that benefit from diverse perspectives and skills.
