This direction is expected to gain even more momentum with the release of major period dramas this year, including Hamnet, set in Shakespeare’s world, and the return of Bridgerton later this January. These cultural moments have reignited a fascination with historical romance and the drama and flamboyance of the stage and theatre. The trend blends bold luxury with nostalgia, offering an escape into decadent old-world themes at a time when modern life feels increasingly digital and removed from the richness of old-world artistry.
“Pinterest recently predicted that the ‘opera aesthetic’ and ‘vintage theatre aesthetic’ will be among 2026’s biggest interior trends for Millennials and Gen Z. Searches for ‘opera theatre’ have increased by 35%, while interest in ‘wedding ceiling draping’ has risen by 40%, reflecting a desire for opulence and grandiose in our spaces.
What does vintage theatre aesthetic look like?
“The interiors of the London Coliseum and the Royal Opera of Versailles perfectly encapsulate the vision behind this trend. Think sweeping staircases, gilded balconies, layered textures, dramatic ceiling details and a sense of scale that is both indulgent and impressive. These spaces celebrate ornamentation rather than minimalism, embracing visual storytelling – an idea many want to recreate in their home.”
How to bring it into your home
Rich red and deep berry tones
“The easiest way to bring this trend into your home is by using rich red, burgundy and deep berry tones in furnishings.
