With wedding season approaching, the pressure to deliver the perfect speech is weighing heavy on the UK’s bridal parties. While the “blank page” has long been the enemy of the Best Man, new data reveals that a significant number of Brits are now hanging up their pens and letting AI do the talking.
A new study of 1,500 UK adults by Moonpig has found that nearly one in three (31%) people find writing a wedding speech as a groom or bride to be a difficult task. The pressure is even higher for those at the top of the top table; 32% of Best Men and Maids of Honour admit they struggle to find the right words for their toast.
However, the most surprising shift is in how these speeches are being written. The data reveals a massive regional divide in who is using AI to write their vows and speeches:
- Bristol (67%)
- Southampton (54%)
- Glasgow (52%)
- Birmingham (44%)
- Newcastle (38%)
The data also highlights a major generational divide in how wedding speeches should be written:
- Almost half (45%) of 25-34-year-olds have already used AI tools to help draft a groom or bride speech.
- 42% of the same age group admit to using AI to write a Best Man or Maid of Honour toast.
- Men are significantly more likely to use AI for their wedding words than women. 23% of men have used AI to draft their wedding speech, compared to just 15% of women.
- 46% of the UK admit they are held back from writing important messages by the fear of saying the wrong thing.
As the leading platform for personal connections, Moonpig’s research suggests that while the sentiment remains heartfelt, the delivery is increasingly digital. We are seeing a move away from the stress of the perfect handwritten draft toward using technology to bypass writer’s block and ensure the right emotional tone.
