A survey conducted by adult retailer Lovehoney found that almost 40% of Brits don’t groom their pubic hair in any way, with 60% of them being men.
From the bush to the Brazilian, pubic hair trends have certainly changed over the years. Everyone has a preferred style when it comes to their intimate landscaping, whether that’s plenty of maintenance or none at all. Lovehoney was interested in finding out exactly where current trends lie, how often they keep on top of things down below, and their reasons for doing so.
Keeping things tidy
Starting off the survey by asking if people groom their pubic hair in the first place, the most popular response was “No, never” which was selected by 38.5% of respondents. “Yes, but not frequently” accounted for 10.5%, “Yes, sometimes”for 24.9%, and finally “Yes, all the time” with 26.1%. While this means that the majority of people do groom their pubic hair at least to some degree, well over a third of Brits simply go au natural and opt instead to let their private garden run wild. And more power to them!
What’s more interesting is that “Yes, all the time” was the most popular answer with the female respondents, with 31.8% of them selecting it, while “No, never” was the most popular choice for the males. We’ll leave what that means up to you…
Running wild
The next question asked was “Why do you not groom your pubic hair?”, where the most popular answer with 40.4% of the vote was a simple “I prefer it natural” – you can’t get a fairer answer than that. This was followed by 32.2% responding with “I don’t care”, showing how ultimately a good chunk of people just aren’t that bothered about their bush! 12.7% of people said they “don’t have the time/effort”, and who can blame them when it can be such a time-consuming task? Interestingly, 7.6% of respondents said they didn’t groom as their partner “prefers it natural”, highlighting the difference in tastes people can have, and also that people are willing to go (or not go) the extra mile for their significant other.
How does your garden grow?
Moving on to those who do indulge in some hair care, Lovehoney asked “How do you usually groom your pubic hair?” The most popular answer given with 35.5% of the vote was a simple “Trim”, so it would seem that for the majority of people, a short back and sides does the job! In a very close second with 33.4% was “Shave it all off”, which accounted for 40.2% of the female vote, and a much smaller 24.2% of the male vote – seems the men out there are a bit more apprehensive when it comes to some intimate shaving!
Only 8.3% of people opted to “wax everything off”, so while it might result in a smoother finish than a shave, not everyone is willing to strip off and get stripped off. It also seems leaving a pattern is a trend no longer, with only 2.4% of people having a “Landing Strip” and an even smaller 1.7% with a “Triangle”. It isn’t easy to do some artistry yourself so it’s not too surprising that for most people this isn’t something they would usually consider, but for the adventurous, we salute you.
Trim and proper
So the big question we’re left with is WHY exactly do people groom their pubic hair? Well, luckily we have the answer to that too. The most popular answer accounting for 54.2% of responses was “It feels better”, which is understandable to say the least; after all, is comfort not king? This was closely followed by “I think it looks better” with 50.5%, then “It makes me feel sexier” with 26.8%, proving that a lot of people like to groom their pubic hair as a form of empowerment and improving their self-confidence – even if it isn’t something that will often be seen.
“Partner prefers it” was an answer once again for this question, however with almost twice the amount of vote share than the earlier question with 14%. Interestingly, 15.9% of the male respondents gave this as their answer compared to 12.6% of the females – it would seem the men out there are being told to clean up their act! Finally, a not insignificant 19.1% of people attributed their grooming to “I don’t like pubic hair”. Need they say more?
