Now for years I’ve been saying “I wouldn’t be caught dead in a swimsuit!” but then when I caught the gym bug I realised that my favourite kind of exercise is swimming and in order to do that I’d need a swimsuit.

I was like, give me a black one with super duper built in support and a rock hard tummy control panel.

Turns out any swimsuit even remotely fitting that description will not make me look like a supermodel, and that every woman in the gym is the same position as me, so I said screw it and bought a foxy red halter neck one… with a tummy control panel. 😉

Here are some tips for swimsuit shopping this season; what’s hot and what will suit your body.

The hottest suits this season have sporty details; zippers, stripes and bold bursts of colour.

Colour blocks and athletic details are a perfect combination for athletic body types. They add curves without bulk.

Those with smaller busts who want to perk things up a big should opt for flirty prints and feminine silhouettes. Retro inspired swimwear will flatter you shape. Higher-cut bottoms will elongate your legs, and ruffles can hide everything from a smaller bust to larger thighs, and polka dots never hurt anyone.

For us ladies with the big boobies, a suit with bra sizing and support is the only way to go.

Tie-dye and tribal prints in bright colours will have you feeling confident and great. Pinks and purples in particular flatter almost every skin tone.

For the more curvaceous ladies, don’t be afraid of graphic prints on swimsuits; think stripes, chevrons, and all things geometric.
Solid colours may seem like a safe bet when buying swimwear, but take a chance on some modern patterns; graphic prints, especially in darker colours can be more flattering. Even dreaded horizontal lines can be flattering if worn the right way.

For pear shaped ladies wide straps and jeweled details will draw attention away from the lower body.

If you’re still hell bent on a black swimsuit, why not break out of your comfort zone try a trendy grey one? Grey is the new black, it’s the freshest colour of the season and just as flattering as black. With so many shades of grey you’re bound to find something you’ll love and you’ll feel super chic and so in style.

Here are a few of my top choices and places to shop for swimwear:

1. Seafolly Sophia One Piece Suit with Boy Leg – ASOS Seriously how cute is it?!

2. Animal Print Tankini and Shorts – Next

3. KALIKO Frill Tuck Swimsuit – House of Fraser I love this one, it’s so foxy.

4. Beach 2 Beach Spot Ruffle Bandeau Shaping Swimsuit – Fig Leaves

5. This is my must have for swimwear, it’s got control, support and some snazzy ruching to hide any lumps or bumps. Purple Drape Front Swimsuit – Debenhams

Happy Shopping!
