Just when I thought Facebook was going to take a break, I’m wrong again.
$1 Billion for the most popular photo app these days, i.e., Instagram, and Facebook is capturing its core essence again. Or rather, the thing that made it so exclusive and appealing in its early days.
What I find interesting about Facebook’s purchase is the idea that Zuckerberg and company could at least acknowledge that the quality that made them so famous a few years ago is currently being outdone by the little app that could. And instead of fighting against it, it’s willing to embrace it with open arms. On one hand, we could argue that that’s the easy solution these days, which I think I’m prone to, but on the other hand, Facebook could do worse. Just remember that AIM no longer exists because Facebook fought against it with its chat features. Something that makes me rather sad, too, because AIM was an integral part to my upbringing.
Besides for that though, integrating Instagram on Facebook will be really cool because of the following:
-Tagging Facebook friends in our photos. It’ll make both social media platforms that much more social, and that much more widespread.
-Instagram will get better. With all that money the company just recieved, I expect more unique filters and new features to develp quickly. The future of Instagram is looking better already, now that it has opened its doors to Android and Facebook alike.
-Hopefully, a feature to filter our Facebook photos. I’d be thrilled to be able to filter my best Facebook snapshots that I couldn’t before– I’m counting on Instagram to not let us down on something like this.
