DIY Living Room Wall Decoration Tips

The living room is the focal point of any home, something we rely upon every day to make our time spent inside worth it. It is also a location where families tend to gather together with guests and thus it needs to look worth spending time within. Let’s point out some potential solutions you can use to make all of this count, together with an easy cleaning approach:

• Preparing the walls

You can use an aqua, gray or brown color scheme for a nice and neutral space to begin work from. The way you can do this is to choose a nice, neutral color for the walls of your living room to begin with. A good example of that could be something akin to a creamy latte or a similar shade that isn’t too obtrusive and annoying to the eyes. You can also work on painting the wall trim white for accent purposes and to allow the walls to come alive that way. Choose your most favorite colors for accents and you can start looking for fabrics and pillows to combine all of this into a unified whole. Avoid lighter colors since they will require more house cleaning and maintenance to keep looking good.

• Valance with no sewing involved

You can go a step beyond the walls by looking at a nice and tailored treatment for your windows without having to drag out your sewing machine into the light of day. It is actually quite easy since all you need to do is cut a 1×6 inch board a few inches wider than your windows, cutting two 6 inch pieces for the returns and then screwing them on the board. Cut fabric of about 10 inches height and the width needed with allowance for returns, hems and so forth and hem all edges that way. Put the board under the fabric, about 3 inches from the top hem and staple the fabric right onto the board, folding it in neat pleats every 12 inches or so, wrapping it around the returns. Use ribbons and buttons to hide the location of the staples and you’ll have excellent results overall. Make sure you’re using fabric made for easier cleaning; much like it is with upholstery cleaning.

• Yarn wall hanger

This is one extremely easy project with zero need for cleaning as time goes by. Simply get a nice branch, stick or even a 2×4 and work on tying different color strands of colorful yarn right onto it, cutting them in a uniform or varying length. It will look like a colorful rug on your wall with its own character and rustic charm.
