6 Steps to growing a successful beard

In this article I’m going to discuss beard growth. Waiting can be frustrating and most people want a beard fast. Unfortunately, whatever you do growing a beard will take time, but below are a list of effective things you can do today to make your beard grow thicker and faster.

1) Keeping a clean face

When your face is dirty and greasy the follicles can get clogged and the dead skin cells can create a barrier that the hair struggles to grow through. Keeping your face clean will create the perfect environment for beard growth.

You can keep your face clean and grease-free by washing at least 2 times a day with a cleanser or a face wash. Using a cleanser will strip away all the dead cells on your face allowing your facial hair to grow freely. Try to avoid using soaps as it can leave your skin dry which could lead to skin complications. Keeping your face clean will give you a perfect chance for beard growth.

2) Moisturise

Moisturising will help keep your face healthy which will promote hair production. When choosing a moisturiser, be careful to cater to your skin type: if you have dry skin choosing an oil based option which will keep your skin hydrated, and if you have greasy skin choosing a water-based moisturiser which will help protect your skin after washing. This will create a healthy environment for growth.

3) Massaging the face

This sounds strange to many people but this actually helps with beard growth. If you gently rub and massage your face it starts to promote the follicles to grow thicker hair and this gentle stimulation will encourage growth. Gently massage your face in small circles for about 10 – 15 mins every other day and results should start to show.

4) Health diet and lifestyle

This one is obvious; if you put good into your body then the results will show. If you make sure to eat a healthy, balanced diet, you are giving your body all the right vitamins and minerals to promote growth in the body (including the beard). Exercise also increases growth, as you body pumps blood at a faster rate while exercising, which feeds nutrients to different areas of the body. This boost can produce faster rates of growth.

Sleep will allow your body to regenerate and rebuild lost cells. It is also the prime time for your hair to grow. It’s not surprising then that the most productive time for beard growth is during sleep. Experts usually suggest to aim for 9-hours’ sleep a night, which I understand is not always possible in today’s world, but using a general rule of more is better, if you make a conscious effort to get a bit more sleep then you will feel the benefits (in both your body and your beard growth).

5) Vitamins and supplements

If you want to increase the productivity of your body’s beard growth (without using implants) then this is always a good way to do so. A simple solution would be to take supplements, or your could plan your meals to ensure you’re getting all of the required vitamins and minerals from your food and diet alone. Here’s a list of the ways various vitamins will improve your beard growth, along with some of the most common foods they can be found in:

Vitamin A

Essential in maintaining healthy hair follicles, Vitamin A will help with your hair growth. Sources of Vitamin A include carrots, sweet potatoes, peppers and all the dark greens.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E will improve blood flow, resulting in more nutrients to your hair follicles. Sources include nuts (almonds and hazelnuts are best), raw seeds, beans and again all the greens.

B Complex Vitamins

This group of vitamins are very important to your beard growth. Vitamin B5, which is often found in hair products, will help keep your hair strong and healthy. Vitamin B12 is essential in many bodily functions and B2 helps with the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbs – a lack of B2 can lead to severe hair loss.

Biotin (B7)

Another of the B vitamins which is known to make your nails and hair stronger (by promoting cell growth throughout the body), which in turn promotes a healthy beard growth. You will find this in raw egg yolks (I know, not the most glamorous of foods), sweet potato, onions, tomatoes and nuts (including peanuts and almonds).

This is an important one for beard growth, and as a bonus will also boost your general health.

6) Patience

The final one on the list is a no brainer but probably the hardest one. Like we said at the beginning one of the toughest things is waiting for your beard to grow, and the second hardest thing is resisting trimming or cutting it. One of the best ways to grow a beard is to just let it grow. It might look bushy and mistreated at the beginning but with time you will have facial hair that you can shape and groom to the way you want it.
