With a colourful door adding something special to the kerb appeal of a property, Whitegates wondered if there was a colour more popular than others when it comes to what is being “liked” on social media. Keeping things neutral

It appears homeowners are a fan of a wooden door, as it was revealed to be the most popular colour when inspecting the front doors tagged on Instagram. Variations of brown wooden doors made up over a quarter (26%) of the posts as part of the analysis; from dark oak to lighter washed wood, this timeless neutral colour is a popular choice on Instagram. If you’re looking to keep things simple and paired back, then this colour will let you do just that.

Classic colours

Black was uncovered as the second most popular colour tagged on Instagram. The elegant and dramatic colour can be extremely versatile and isn’t a colour likely to go out of style anytime soon. This timeless hue is a great choice if you want to show off your whole front door area, as it’s a simple but sophisticated option that can allow your front door accessories to pop. For fans of something a little bolder still, red front doors are also a popular choice. From true, bright reds to softer rustic shades, this colour made it into the top six most-liked colours and it’s easy to see why. Red is a classic and emotional colour that can really help your property to stand out amongst the rest.

Green dream

Another popular choice was green, with the various shades taking a 21% share of the most liked Instagram photos overall. From the vibrant pops of bright green to deeper shades of forest green, this colour takes the third top spot. Sage green also proved to be popular, coming in at fifth place. Sage is a great colour choice for those looking for a softer hue of green as this shade pairs perfectly with an idyllic cottage in the countryside, to really help enhance the charm of a period property. It also allows coloured flowers to really pop against the muted tones, so if you’re after a colour to help show off your property’s features, this could be the one for you.

Whilst trending colours may come and go it looks like people’s fascination with documenting colourful front doors on Instagram is here to stay.
