Expert Reveals How to Remove Dog Smears from Glass Using The White Vinegar Hack

As spring rolls in and the weather improves our pets are spending more time racing in and out of the garden leaving a trail of nose prints, paw smears and drool behind them.

While it’s a joy to see them enjoying the outdoors, it’s a little less joyful to see your glass doors and windows covered in dog marks.

To help keep your home looking its best, Jade Oliver, showroom stylist at Express Bi-Folding Doors shares her simple, pet-friendly ways to keep your glass surfaces spotless, without the need for harsh chemical cleaners.

Simple hacks for how to remove dog smears from glass

Did you know the secret weapon is white vinegar? White vinegar is a natural, non-toxic cleaning powerhouse that is incredibly effective at removing stubborn dirt and grime left by pets. It’s safe for use around dogs and cats, making it the perfect go-to solution for busy pet owners who care about keeping their home healthy and fresh.

  1. Mix Your Solution

In a spray bottle, combine equal parts white vinegar and water. For especially stubborn smears (think muddy paw prints after a rainy play session), opt for undiluted white vinegar to boost cleaning power.

  1. Pre-clean the Frame and Sills

Always start by wiping down the window frames and sills with a dry cloth to remove dust and loose dirt. This prevents additional grime from spreading across the glass once you begin cleaning.

  1. Spray Generously

Apply the vinegar solution generously over the glass surface, focusing on the areas with the most smudges and prints. Make sure to cover every mark thoroughly for the best results.

  1. Wipe with the Right Tools

Use a lint-free cloth, a paper towel, or better yet, a quality squeegee (like the Vileda squeegee) to wipe the glass from top to bottom. Wiping in one consistent direction helps prevent streaks.

  1. Buff to a Shine

Finish by buffing the glass with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. This final step is essential for achieving that perfect, smear-free sparkle that will have your glass doors looking brand new.
