Here’s how to spend the perfect 72 hours in Rhodes

Here’s how to spend the perfect 72 hours in Rhodes

As UK travellers look for guaranteed sunshine, coastal views and culture all in one trip, Rhodes is fast becoming a go-to long weekend destination.

Combining historic sites with beach time and a laid-back Greek food scene, the island offers more variety than a typical city break.

Travel experts at eShores have revealed exactly how to spend 72 hours in Rhodes, from exploring the medieval Old Town to unwinding by the sea.

Day 1 – Arrival

With a morning or early afternoon flight from the UK, visitors can be exploring Rhodes within hours.

  • Start with a slow wander through the UNESCO-listed medieval centre, where cobbled streets, stone archways and hidden courtyards set the tone.
  • The Street of the Knights is one of the most striking spots, but the real charm comes from getting lost in the quieter alleys.
  • Take time to stop for a coffee or drink in a shaded square.
  • In the evening, settle into a traditional taverna within or just outside the Old Town, where menus focus on fresh seafood, grilled meats and classic Greek dishes.

Keep things relaxed with a post-dinner stroll through the softly lit streets.

Day 2 – History

Day two is a mix of Rhodes’ standout sights and its coastal appeal.

  • Start the morning at the Palace of the Grand Master and explore more of the Old Town before heading out towards the coast.
  • Spend the afternoon at Elli Beach or another nearby stretch of coastline, where clear waters and beachside cafés offer a change of pace.
  • For lunch, opt for a relaxed seafront spot serving simple Greek dishes, think fresh salads, grilled fish and local wine.
  • In the afternoon, those wanting something less obvious can explore Mandraki Harbour or take a short trip to a quieter beach further along the coast.
  • As the day winds down, find a scenic viewpoint or beachside bar to watch the sunset, one of Rhodes’ biggest draws.
  • Finish with dinner by the water or in a lively local area, followed by drinks in a low-key bar or along the waterfront.

Day 3 – Final night

Day three is about making the most of Rhodes at a slower pace.

  • Start with a relaxed breakfast before heading out to explore beyond the centre. This could mean simply discovering quieter corners of the island.
  • Alternatively, take a day trip to Lindos to see whitewashed houses and the stunning rocky cove of St Paul’s Bay.
  • In Rhodes Town, markets, independent shops and hidden cafés offer plenty to explore without rushing.
  • Spend the afternoon revisiting favourite spots or squeezing in one last beach visit.

For the final evening, make it memorable, whether that’s a scenic dinner overlooking the sea or a traditional meal in a tucked-away taverna.

End the trip with a final walk through the Old Town or along the coast as the island winds down for the night.

Day 4 – Home time

Grab a coffee and a light breakfast, take one last stroll, either through the Old Town or along the seafront, and head to the airport.

Gavin Lapidus, company director at eShores, commented:

“Rhodes offers the best of both worlds for a long weekend, you’ve got history, beaches and great food all in one place. It’s an easy choice for travellers who want variety without venturing too far.”
