Simple Lifestyle Changes that Reap Big Weight Loss Rewards!

Simple Lifestyle Changes

If you are trying to lose weight, you are probably overwhelmed by topics like healthy food choices, cutting calories, ideal workouts, and various weight loss aids.  But what happens when you can’t possibly stand to read one more article about calorie composition or fat burning workouts?  You might be tempted to toss in the towel all together.

Don’t let that happen.  Don’t give up!  There are lots of little changes you can make to your lifestyle that will make a big difference in your weight loss journey.  By changing how you think about food – and yourself – you can greatly enhance the weight loss plan you already have in place.

Take a look at these weight loss suggestions.  Hopefully, you’ll be able to find at least a few tips that would be easy to follow.

Stay Home

Are you a coffee enthusiast?  Are you one of those people who can’t function properly until you’ve had a jolt of caffeine?

That’s fine.  Coffee won’t sabotage your diet.  However, all the delicious add-ins might.  And, since you are much more likely to cave to temptation at a coffee shop, it is best to make your brew at home.  Buy some good, quality beans and nonfat milk.  Drink up at home.  You’ll notice a big difference in your waistline – and wallet!

Likewise, try to limit the number of times you dine out.  Studies show people tend to eat more when they are at a restaurant.  Why?  Restaurants offer too many delicious options.  Appetizers, salads, soups, desserts, fruity drinks – do you offer those things at home?  Probably not.  Therefore, meals at home are much safer and free of dangerous temptation.

Consider Color and Size

Did you know color can have a significant effect on your mood?  For example, the color red increases your appetite.  Think about it; what is the most popular color in fast food logos?  Red.  That is because they want you to eat (and spend) as much as possible!

On the other hand, the color blue is an appetite suppressant.  Therefore, it is wise to surround yourself with the color.  Buy blue dinner plates.  Paint your kitchen blue.

While you are at the store buying your new blue plates, check their size.  We have a subconscious desire to fill our plates with food.  Plates that look bare make us feel depressed – like we aren’t getting enough to eat.  In reality, small portions are perfectly filling.  They just look extra small on big plates.

Trade your dinner plates for salad plates.  The smaller size will be heaping with food!  By using smaller plates, you’ll trick your mind into thinking you are getting more food than you really are.

Serve it Up

When you are cooking, try to add as many vegetables as possible to a dish.  Have more healthy foods and less unhealthy foods.  For example, decrease the amount of sauce and meat in your stir-fry.  Increase the amount of broccoli, carrots, peppers, onions, and green beans.

Once you have your meal prepared, dish up everyone’s plate in the kitchen.  When you bring heaping bowls of food to the table, you are just asking for trouble.  If the extra servings are right there, within reach, you are more likely to fill your plate once you clean it.  However, if the extra food is left in the kitchen…out of sight, out of mind.

After you are finished eating, leave the kitchen.  Clean up, turn off the lights, and walk away.  Don’t go back in there until the next meal.  Think of your kitchen like a restaurant; when it is closed, you can’t get more food until they open again.

Think About Your Clothes

When you go out to eat with friends and family, take a few extra minutes to attend to your appearance.  Put on your favorite, most flattering outfit.  Fix your hair.  If you look nice, your friends and family will notice – and comment.  Their positive words will make you feel good about yourself.  When it comes time to eat, you’ll reflect on those compliments and stop yourself from overdoing it.

Once you have reached a new weight loss milestone, toss out all your “fat” clothes.  If you don’t have these larger sizes to fall back on, you’ll have to buy an all-new wardrobe if you ever gain more weight.  An expensive shopping trip should deter you from packing on a few extra pounds.

See.  That wasn’t so bad, was it?  There are plenty of ways you can enhance your weight loss efforts that don’t make you want to pull your hair out!  Give a few of them a try.  Then, come back and tell us how they worked!
