Mascara can provide an instant lift to your overall makeup, but it can be a bit tricky to apply, especially if you are not used to it. If applied in a wrong way, it may easily ruin your looks. Though, most women think that there is no skills needed for applying mascara, they often face clumps and stains. The best way to look beautiful and apply the mascara perfectly is to avoid these 10 mistakes that most women make.
#1 Applying mascara roughly
Many women do not consider the importance of applying the mascara gently. If you are short of time, avoid applying it. Mascara when applied roughly may leave unwanted clumps and marks on the skin near the eyes, which can spoil your makeup as well as overall look. Always take time to apply it in gentle strokes so that it is applied perfectly without leaving any mark on other places.
#2 Applying too many coats
This is another mistake women make without knowing that piling on too many coats can actually make them appear clumpy. Since the mascara tends to dry quickly, it dries mid way when reapplying and causes unwanted clumps. It is, therefore, recommended not to use more than two coats of mascara at a time. This will add volume to your lashes without making them look spidery.
#3 Avoiding the roots
Some women prefer applying mascara only near the tips of their lashes. It may not help you in anyway because such an act may make you lashes look even shorter. Hence, avoid this mistake and always apply mascara to the length of your lashes starting from roots to the tip for an even look.
#4 Using it for longer
All mascara come with an expiry date, but they tend to lose their freshness in merely six months of regular use. If you want to protect your lashes and eyes from an infection, try changing your mascara every six months. Old mascaras are a good place for germs to grow and cause redness, itching and infection.
#5 Pumping the wand
The in and out motion of the wand may feel tempting but doing it may affect your make up. Wondering how? The pumping action allows the air to pass in the tube and cause clumps. It can dry out the formula quickly. The trapped air in the tube may also provide a good platform for bacteria to grow and cause infection. Always twist out the wand in a slow motion so that it is thoroughly coated with the product and is not trapping any air in the tube.
#6 Pressing it too hard
It is likely that you press the wand hard on your lashes to avoid any clumps. But this may cause it to leave marks on your eyelids. To prevent this, always apply the mascara in a gentle way so that your lashes do not touch your eyelids. If you get some stains, use a Q-tip with some makeup remover to get rid of it.
#7 Not using an eyelash curler
An eyelash curler can bring about drastic changes to your looks. It can make your eyes look larger and attractive. It also helps in enhancing the effect of mascara. Hence, always use a curler to gently curl your lashes before applying mascara. Although, always avoid crimping your lashes with it after you apply the mascara as it may provide an uneven look and can break your lashes.
#8 Smudging it over
Never, ever smudge your mascara. Mascaras are not meant for smudging and may provide a weird look when done. Instead, use an eye pencil if you want a smudged look.
#9 Not using the correct wand
Though, most mascara tubes come with a specialized wand, you may want to use some other application brush for a personalized look. But always consider buying a wand that is intended for applying mascara only. You may use an eyelash comb to brush your lashes after applying it to get and even and clump-free look.
#10 Not removing mascara gently
It is very important to remove your makeup before going to bed. Mascara makes your lashes stiff, which becomes more prone to breakage when rubbed with your pillow. This may cause your lashes to break easily. Also removing the mascara harshly may cause the lashes to break. Therefore, always take special care when removing them. Soak a cotton ball in makeup remover and let it stay over your lashes for a few seconds. Wipe them in downwards strokes for a better and gentle cleaning.
