  1. Standing Forward Bend

Also known as Uttanasana, this pose will not only give you energy but will also help soothe your mind and work on your hamstring.

Steps:

  • Start from the mountain pose, exhale forward and bend your knees. Bring palms flat to the floor and head pressed against your knees.
  • As you pull your head down and hips pressed up, stretch your spine in opposite direction with both legs straight.
  • Breathe and hold for about 4-8 breathes. As you inhale, press your belly into your thighs.
  • Release by bending your knees with back still kept straight. Inhale with your both arms out to the sides and go back to the mountain pose.
  1. Upward Dog

This popular yoga pose is energy-boosting as opens your chest and strengthens your whole body. It also invigorates your nervous system and kidney as well as aligns your spine.

Steps:

  • Start on a table pose then drop your hips slowly to the floor.
  • Drop your shoulders down, with both palms pressed into the floor and chest forward. Reach the crown of your head up towards the ceiling.
  • Inhale, then press the top of your feet down and engage in mulabandha, lifting your legs and thighs off the floor.
  • Breathe and hold for 1-3 breathes.
  • Bend your knees and lift your hips back up to the table pose to release.
  1. Downward Dog

One of the most popular yoga pose, the term downward-facing dog is coined from how dogs naturally stretch their bodies. It rejuvenates and energizes your whole body as well as builds strength in your shoulders, arms and legs.

Steps:

  • Start with your hands and legs on the floor, forming a table. Your feet and hands serve as the legs while your back serves as the table top.
  • Form an inverted V-shape with your hips lifted up, knees and elbows straightened.
  • Toes should be pointed forward; both feet are parallel to each other and hip-width apart while hands are shoulder-width apart.
  • Press your hands into the ground with neck kept lengthened.
  • Hold on this downward dog pose while taking long deep breaths.
  • Exhale, bend your knees and return to the table pose.
  1. Bridge Pose

This pose not only energizes your body, it also stimulates the nervous system and endocrine, strengthens and lengthens your spine and builds your core and make your lower body stronger.

Steps:

  • Lie on your back then bend both of your knees with your feet face flat on the floor keeping them at hip-width apart. Slide your arms in the side of your body, with both palms faced down.
  • Press your feet into the floor and take a deep breathe. Lift your hips up and squeeze your knees tightly.
  • Lift your chest up by pressing down into your shoulders and arms. Lift your hips higher by engaging your buttocks and legs.
  • Breathe and hold for 4-8 breathes.
  • Exhale and roll your spine slowly back to the floor to release.
  1. Sphinx Pose

This pose which is suited for beginners is called sphinx pose as it resembles the sphinx, a half-lion mythological creature. It’s a gentle backbend pose which strengthens your spine, lengthens your abdominal muscle and gives you firm buttocks. It soothes the nervous system, rejuvenates the body and reduces fatigue.
