New research has shown that over 40% of people would still like to receive a postcard from friends or family who are on holiday, and surprisingly, millennials are the generation that wants to receive a postcard the most.
Travel insurance company InsureandGo conducted a study about the dying art of the postcard, with the results showing that despite so many people still wanting to receive them, 60% of travellers don’t send postcardsat all.
According to the research, the nostalgic tradition promotes extremely positive feelings from those who are on the receiving end of hearing about the sender’s travels. The top three responses that people had when being sent a postcard are feeling happy, remembered and loved.
Using AI to bring postcards back
To encourage and inspire travellers to think about sending a postcard thenext time they are on holiday, InsureandGo has used AI to create a collection of charming, beautiful and sometimes amusing stamps that sumup travellers’ thoughts and perceptions about 20 countries worldwide.
The new stamp designs were created by asking travellers what they think of when picturing various countries, covering aspects such as the food, landscapes, people and animals. These thoughts were then fed into the AI image generator Midjourney, and the results are a fascinating insight into how countries are perceived around the world.

Animals also play a big part in the designs, with China’s adorable national animal, the panda, featuring prominently within their stamp drinking a cup of Chinese tea and Thailand’s elephants marching across a sandy beach shown in the Thai stamp. Not all the animals are so cute however, Australia’s famous creepy crawlies make an appearance on their stamp, alongside a pint of Aussie beer.
A country’s famed gastronomy and produce are featured in many of the stamps, from France’s highly regarded wine to Mexico’s tacos and limes and, amusingly, the UK’s love of beige food, baked beans and tea, all reflected in the nation’s stamp.
Chris Rolland, CEO at InsureandGo comments: “In an age of super-fast Wi-Fi being available in many places when we’re on holiday, it’s easy to forget the delight that a humble postcard can bring to our friends and family. It’s heartening to see from our research that receiving a postcard can still bring such positive emotions such as happiness and love, so we hope our fun AI creations remind people how posting something whileyou’re abroad can bring a little bit of the holiday joy back home.”
