It’s been two years since No Time to Die. With producers saying they’re still deciding on direction, N.Peal, whose clothing featured in the last movie, surveyed 2000 Bond fans to find out what they want from the next 007 adventure.
The Bond franchise has always stayed topical when it comes to villains evil schemes. But which real-world inspired issues do Brits want 007 to face in the next movie?
Well, the biggest threat we want Brit to face, with 51% of the vote, is the rise of AI. The next biggest threats were cybersecurity concerns with 38%, and climate change and the environment with 28%. After that, 25% said 25% said information and disinformation warfare, and finally, 24% said the energy crisis.
When asked to choose from a list of established actors, a 37% majority of Brits said they’d like to see Tom Hardy play Bond. This was followed by 31% saying Idris Elba and 21% saying Henry Cavill. When asked to choose from a list of up-and-coming stars, a 31% majority said James Norton would make the best Bond. Norton was followed by 25% saying Richard Madden, and 20% saying Aaron-Taylor Johnson.
Some of the other bookies’ favorite actors scored poorly amongst Bond fans. Michael Fassbender only had 8% of the vote and Aidan Turner just 9%. For up and coming stars, Henry Golding got 15%, and Regé-Jean Page (13%).
A female Bond however still remains controversial – 44% said they’d be unhappy with the decision, vs 23% who said they’d be pleased.
In terms of directors, 31% said Danny Boyle, who dropped out of the last movie, should direct the next Bond. In wake of Barbenheimer’s atomic success, Nolan and Gerwig came next with 28% and 15% of the vote.
Other potential directors in the frame include Edgar Wright (8%), David Fincher (7%), Christopher McQuarrie and Matt Reeves (6%). Returning Bond reinventor Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale) got just 4% of the vote.
In terms of style, an enormous 65% wanted Bond movies to return to standalone adventures, but 39% wanted to keep the emotional stakes of the Daniel Craig years. 37% wanted a return to Connery-style adventures.
Finally, Ed Sheeran was the people’s choice to perform the next Bond theme, with 24% of the vote. Lewis Capaldi was a close second on 20%, while 19% of people are backing Adele to return.
