When it comes to the office, it’s better to have something and not need it than to need something and not have it. This can range from simple stuff like coffee and sugar, to the more practical computer software/hardware that you need to conduct business with.
Well, with technology becoming more and more advanced and involved with our work on a daily basis, it’s nice to go through the office and highlight a few things that we really should have in the workplace on a technological level.
Wireless Router
Pretty much a necessity these days. With tablets and laptops becoming the norm, and meetings taking place all over the place, it’s good to be able to maintain a constant connection to the internet. Wi-Fi routers eliminate the need for wires and generally make the place a little tidier too.
Envy Printer
A printer is part and parcel of the office place. However, even these tools are becoming more advanced. HP has produced an all-in-one printer that also is a copier and a scanner. It’s smaller, lightweight and affordable. Best of all, it’s wireless, so you can print things from your mobile device.
Laptop Tracker
Sometimes, those business meeting will take place out of the office. Outside, it’s very easy to lose or have stolen your equipment. At the moment, this is US based, but soon you might be able to have a tracker placed on your laptop. If it goes missing, an app can track the physical location, allow you to lock the data, or even erase it completely!
Web Conferencing
Perfect if clients are quite a distance away. Web conferencing software such as Adobe Connect or even Skype allows complete audio/visual communications clearly and in real time. It allows information and ideas to be shared quickly and effectively, meaning business needs are fulfilled efficiently!
Cloud Storage
Information used to be kept on discs which physically had to be transferred to another place. Today, we still do that to a certain degree, but the office has evolved. Cloud storage is quickly rising to take its place. Virtual areas of storage kept online, allowing information to be accessed anywhere and at any time.
Shredder
It’s a fact of business that hard copies of information are still very much needed. The traditional method of destroying sensitive data is the humble shredder. No, not the arch-enemy of the Teenage Mutant Turtles, but the paper destroying kind. It was a common sight in offices of old. However, get something like the Swingline Shredder and you no long have to be around for it.
It can fit 100 sheets into a section at the top, and then your job is done. It will automatically shred your paper. Great for then you’ve got a busy schedule.
Of course, chances are your office has a lot of this tech already. And if not, then now would be a good chance to show some initiative to the boss and get it installed!
