Make telecoms ethical, says business leader

A business leader is calling on the government to get tough on unethical pricing policies in the telecoms sector

Juliet Moran, who runs ethical business TelephoneSystems.cloud, believes more should be done to stamp out unethical pricing policies such as hidden fees, long contracts and making it impossible to leave.

She believes customers should not be tied-in to lengthy punitive contracts and feels more needs to be done to combat hidden fees, hidden small print and additional costs.

The business owner says unethical practices across her sector give the whole industry a bad name and create a well of cynicism amongst the public which ethical operators such as TelephoneSystems.cloud have to overcome.

Some companies have moved towards clearer billing in recent years but there remain calls for many to go further still by abolishing lengthy contracts and hidden cancellation fees.

These remain prevalent in many sectors including telecoms where many providers use discounted deals to entice in new customers but then tie them in with lengthy contracts and hit them with unexpected fees or impossible exit clauses.

Now Juliet Moran says it’s time for the government to step in and do more to combat unethical practices.

She said: “Unethical pricing policies and dodgy business practices give the whole sector a bad name. Our company telephonesystems.cloud are committed to ethical pricing but many in the telecoms sector still operate rogue pricing policies.

“We believe the time has come for new legislation around contracts and hidden terms. Customers need to be confident they are getting a fair deal and aren’t going to be hit in the wallet by unexpected fees.

“Lengthy contracts with hidden terms that make it extremely hard to exit should be abolished as should deals which entice new customers with offers such as free phones, only to discover you have to pay 20 times as much later for the phones if you ever want to leave, making exiting the contract impossible.

“We have had businesses on the phone to us in tears when they realise they are paying 10 times the amount they could be paying, crippling their business. But they cannot get out of the contract, as they didn’t read the small print before signing up. Many are very shocked when they try to leave only to find out the hidden terms explaining they have to pay for those free phones when they leave at inflated prices, or that they simply already rolled over into another 7 year contract without realising.

With the cost of living crisis, inflation and the rising costs of goods and services businesses are struggling right now and the government has a role to play in ensuring more is done to remove tactics that are designed to entrap customers.”

Telephonesystems.cloud operates an ethical pricing policy with fixed prices, no contract and transparent fees guaranteed.
