From salt beef beigels in London’s East End to gourmet subs in Manchester, the UK’s sandwich scene is well and truly thriving. But which shops are really winning over the nation’s taste buds and social media feeds?
To find out, Betway Casino has ranked 80 sandwich spots across the UK using the following metrics: Google review ratings, Instagram hashtag volume, and annual Google search volume. To decide which sandwich shops to rank, they took to Reddit and online articles to collate a list of recommended locations across the country.
Beigel Bake is the UK’s most popular sandwich shop with over one million searches every year.
An East End icon known best for its salt beef filled beigels, Beigel Bake has been serving its famous beigels on Brick Lane since the 1970s. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it’s no surprise Beigel Bake has racked up over one million annual Google searches and nearly 12,000 Instagram posts under its hashtag.
Sandwich Sandwich, which has four locations – two in central London and two in Bristol – comes in second place with over a million searches and just over 1,500 Instagram posts. A family owned business starting in Bristol over 30 years ago, they craft generously filled sandwiches in a wide variety of flavours, from classic chicken Kyiv to vegan falafel, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
With a 4.6/5 star Google rating and strong traction on social media with almost 4,500 Instagram posts, The Black Pig, which can be found in London’s Borough Market Kitchen, comes third. The spot has built a loyal following since opening in 2019 thanks to its delicious toasted ciabatta sandwiches, including its signature honey truffle and parmesan pork ciabatta.
